Northern Group urges Buhari to appoint military administrators for Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto, others

As insecurity persists in almost all the States in the North, the Coalition of Northern Groups, (CNG), organisers of “North Is Bleeding”, has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in some states to end the reign of banditry and bloodletting.

The group also urged Buhari to replace the governors of affected states with military administrators to ensure the terrorists are defeated, especially in Niger, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna states.

In an interview over the weekend, spokesman of the group, AbdulAzeez Sulaiman, said, “If President Buhari is to succeed, he must improve the number of boots on the ground, which are at present grossly inadequate”.

He added that after increasing the boots on the ground, he should quickly follow that up with “available legal windows to impose emergency rules in especially the frontline states of Niger, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna.

“The present governors should be replaced with military administrators until conditions improve significantly”, he stated.

He added that the President must “also urgently take steps to anticipate and checkmate the manoeuvres of the multinational interests and their local collaborators”.

“The President must make it clear to those foreign powers that Nigeria, just like any other democracy, would not be disposed to threats by either internal or external aggression”, he said.

Recall that the CNG had in the last week mobilised for what it termed a ‘mega protest’ against insecurity in the North after several days of ‘NorthIsBleeding’ campaign on social media. The campaign appeared to have been boycotted by southerners despite repeated calls for support.

However, the protest, which began sporadically in Abuja, Kaduna and Kano, and was expected to grow into a big protest was shelved when the government intervened and held discussions with the organisers.

But AbdulAzeez insisted that the refusal by southerners to join in the protest was a misrepresentation “because long before the #ENDSARS protest, there were protests against insecurity in the North, which were coordinated by the CNG.

“Rather than queuing into the insecurity protests to give it a national voice, the South selfishly came up with the #ENDSARS protests that primarily targeted a particular unit of the Nigeria Police Force”, he stated.

He added that, “When, unfortunately, the #ENDSARS protests assumed a different face and turned into violent acts and violations against the nation’s defence and security assets and indiscriminate attacks on northerners, the CNG withdrew its protests to avoid exposing the North to greater dangers.

“Besides, I don’t see how those protests which were singularly meant to achieve the ending of SARS could have helped the northern situation”.

We’re ready to join security agents in war against kidnapping, banditry- Hunters

A traditional security outfit, Hunters Association of Nigeria, has pledged support to security agencies to fight against kidnapping, banditry, and other forms of insecurity currently facing the country.

National Chairman of the group, Muhammadu Baba Tola, disclosed this in Bauchi at the annual meeting and inauguration of new officials of the Association held at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Square, Bauchi.

Tola said hunters, know the terrain of Nigeria’s forest, where bandits and insurgents use a hideouts and promised to smoke them out if given the chance.

He said that a lot of success would be achieved if hunters and security agents partner for a common goal.

He said ensuring a peaceful Nigeria remains the priority of every hunter in the country, and therefore pledged hunters readiness to confront bandits and insurgents in their hideouts.

“Hunters knows Nigerian forest and mountains, they can adequately help in that direction. We converge on Bauchi from all parts of Nigeria today to reassess issues of national concerns as well as to determine how best we can come in and help in addressing those issues for the better of our country,”Tola stated

He stated that, consulting with government, traditional rulers and security agencies had been part of their method of operation.

He insisted that they were ready to assist relevant security stakeholders in the country with a view to defeat insecurity.

He pointed out that, their contributions at the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast are a testimony to what they can bring to Nigeria’s effort towards achieving national security.

Tola used the medium to appeal to government at all levels to support the association with operational vehicles as hunters will always support and stand by a united and peaceful Nigeria.

Speaking at the occasion, Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, pledged the support of his administration to hunters to enable them to discharge their roles effectively for the overall safety of lives and property of citizens of the state.

Represented by his Principal private Secretary, Sama’ila Burga, the governor appreciated the contributions of hunters towards ensuring security in Bauchi State in collaboration with government security agencies.

How Buhari marked his 79th birthday in Turkey’

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on, Media & Publicity, Garba Shehu, has disclosed how the president marked his 79th birthday in faraway Istanbul, Turkey.

Recall that Mr Buhari is in Turkey to attend the third Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit, hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Republic of Turkey.

Releasing a statement on Friday, Mr Shehu said the President kickstarted the day with the cutting of a birthday cake moulded in national colours, green-white-green.

Thereafter, according to the statement, Mr Buhari went straight to chair a planning meeting with officials in his delegation from where they drove to the Dolmabahce Palace for a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Tayyip Recep Erdogan.

In response to the tribute on the occasion on behalf of the ministers and the rest of the delegation rendered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, President Buhari said he woul put in his best for Nigeria until the last day when, in 2023, he hands over to a successor and returns to his farm to tender crops and livestock.

“I thought that being away from Abuja I will escape these things. The Guards Brigade had written to tell me what they wanted to do on this day. Now here you are doing this far away from home.

“I look forward to the year 2023 when I finish, to go home to take charge of my farm. Between now and that time, I will do the best that is possible to advance the interest of the nation and its people, and carry out my duties as prescribed by the Constitution,” he said.

As he stepped out of his suite moving to the meeting room, President Buhari met a surprise lineup of the Nigerian delegation with a cake decorated in Nigeria’s national colours.

The group broke into a chorus, as they began chanting “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs who spoke on behalf of the delegation and the Ambassador of Nigeria to Turkey, Ismail Yusuf-Abba, congratulated the President on the good work he is doing for the country, and wished him a happy birthday, many healthy years ahead and the energy to give his best to the nation.

Mr Onyeama noted in particular that the President continues to have a good run with his health, getting better and more active with time.

Twitter removes Osinbajo’s post for copyright violation of Beyonce’s song

The microblogging site took down the tweet afterwards, though the exact day this was done is not known.

“This tweet has been withheld in response to a report from the copyright holder,” Twitter said on the post.

The removal of the post went viral on Wednesday, shortly after the user who made the complaint discovered that action had been taken.

In June, Twitter deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet where he threatened to treat Nigerians “misbehaving” in “the language they understand”.

In the tweet, Buhari cited the civil war and threatened to deal with those “bent on destroying” Nigeria through “insurrection”.

“Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” he had said.

The microblogging site deleted the message the next day after a public outcry.

The government, however, said the suspension had nothing to do with the deletion of the president’s tweet.

The military operation was in continuation of last Monday’s clampdown on alleged hoodlums.

Soldiers on the move

However, it was a difficult mission for the security operatives as the hoodlums blocked the roads with fallen palm trees.

They also dug gullies on the roads to hamper security vehicles from gaining access to their camps.

According to the Nation, the military vehicles were held up for more than 30 minutes as the security operatives had to use shovels to cover the gullies and saws to cut the fallen palm trees to clear the road.

The villagers are said to be co-existing with the hoodlums.

Security operatives have been on a running battle with suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militia wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Early in the year, there was tension in communities in Orsu following the decision of soldiers to indiscriminately fire gunshots to stop alleged attacks by ESN operatives in the area.

Two Notorious Bandits Leaders Who Were Recently Captured By The Ongoing Military Onslaught

Banditry is, regrettably, one of the major social vice that is seriously posing security threat at the peace, orderliness and security of life and properties of the citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Bandits are, frustratingly, unique in the mode of carrying their security havoc which threaten the integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as a country.

Unfortunately, unlike other major social vices that pose threat at the security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bandits can be said to be sophisticated armed robbers who, notoriously, take advantages of lack of heavy security presence in the forest, to attack dwellers of villages, small towns, those dwelling in the forest and, inclusively, the citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who travel through roads that cut across forestry areas.

They take off the belongings of their victims, kill, rape women, kidnap in bulk for ransom and in the recent time, attempt to take off farm, houses, lands or entire community that originally belong to their victims.

No doubt, the primary responsibility of government is to ensure security of life and properties of the citizens. In the light of this, the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, instructed the Nigeria Military to flush out the bandits from the forests and ensure the security of life and properties of the citizens, irrespective of where they live.

Although, the heat of banditry is being felt elsewhere in the country, their heinous activities are centrally felt in the Northern part of the country. Hence, following the activation of anti-bandit operation by the military, there are two notorious bandit leaders who have been captured alive by the men of Nigeria Military.

Sincerely, Kachalla Gadda Turji was quietly becoming a militia force before his notorious bandit group was shutdown, unexpectedly, by the gallant men of Nigeria Military Force.

Kachalla Gadda Turji was reported to have over 2000 armed men working for him. They kidnap for ransom, kill and, notoriously, terrorize Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto States and Niger Republic.

Arguably, his notorious banditry group was allegedly linked to the the shut down of Alpha Jet belonging to Nigerian Air Force, some time ago.

Kachalla Gadda Turji who terrorised the Northwestern states from his hideout in Kuyambana Forest, was arrested on September 4, 2021 at a gun duel where his gang members engaged men of Nigerian military.

Northern Groups Threaten Shutdown Of Six States And Abuja If Nigerian Government Fails To Curb Banditry In Three Months

The states in the North-West geopolitical zone are Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara.

The Sokoto State chapter of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has given the Nigerian Government three months to curb insecurity in the North-West states or face a mass action that will shut down the zone and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The states in the North-West geopolitical zone are Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara.

Northern group of Nigeria

The threat was contained in a communique issued at the end of a one-day stakeholders’ meeting in Sokoto on Thursday.

According to the group, it had mobilised youths in all the northwestern states to ground activities in the zone until the government curbs the problem of banditry and other violent crimes in the region.

Just last Monday, 23 travellers were killed by bandits in Sokoto, a situation that has since sparked public outcry and protests, especially after President Muhammadu Buhari attended a book launch in Lagos the same week.

Coordinator of CNG in the state, Isah Jabbi Usman, who accused the outlawed volunteer vigilantes group, known as Yan Sakai of escalating violence in most parts of the northwestern states, especially in Sokoto, called for an immediate solution to the problem of insecurity.

The group faulted federal and state governments for not doing enough to curb the problem of banditry at its budding stage.

‘’We hereby place the authorities on notice that if the killings and abductions are not significantly or totally controlled within the next three months, mass action would be called that will not prelude occupying all towns in all the frontline states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja,’’ Usman said.

Directors of the Department of State Services (DSS) drawn from the North-West geopolitical zone had in June brainstormed in Kaduna to reverse the troubling spate of insecurity occasioned by kidnapping, banditry and other related crimes in the zone.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub-1883810847636355&output=html&h=300&slotname=7490903905&adk=3421404484&adf=3496702382&pi=t.ma~as.7490903905&w=360&rafmt=1&psa=1&format=360×300&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn-af.feednews.com%2Fnews%2Fdetail%2Fc23303b3b40ae0a817226e58a99e7c85%3Fclient%3Dmini&flash=0&fwr=1&fwrattr=true&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&sfro=1&wgl=1&dt=1639773336237&bpp=13&bdt=1934&idt=515&shv=r20211207&mjsv=m202112060101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D68aeb320fa66efee-222acbcdd4ce00b6%3AT%3D1639772754%3ART%3D1639772754%3AS%3DALNI_MYP3kpJKHQKjSYRavqUZ4949wFrbQ&prev_fmts=0x0%2C360x300&nras=1&correlator=646439601119&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=687484120.1639773337&ga_sid=1639773337&ga_hid=1322844359&ga_fc=0&u_tz=60&u_his=4&u_h=800&u_w=360&u_ah=800&u_aw=360&u_cd=24&u_sd=2&dmc=2&adx=0&ady=2282&biw=360&bih=672&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&eid=31063792%2C31060475&oid=2&pvsid=3628389503687575&pem=560&tmod=897&loc=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn-af.feednews.com%2Fnews%2Fdetail%2Fc23303b3b40ae0a817226e58a99e7c85%3Ffeatures%3D2114057%26uid%3Ddd4ff384f3f7bf4c25fb9ceff99a212110208822%26like_count%3D97%26client%3Dmini&eae=0&fc=1920&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C360%2C0%2C360%2C672%2C360%2C672&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7CeEbr%7C&abl=CS&pfx=0&fu=128&bc=31&ifi=3&uci=a!3&btvi=2&fsb=1&xpc=7NFCXQBFkc&p=https%3A//cdn-af.feednews.com&dtd=554

The meeting which was described as the 2nd quarterly meeting of the secret police held in the DSS office complex located along Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari Way (formerly WAFF road), Kaduna.

All the Directors of the agency from Kebbi, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara states were present at the meeting.

Others in attendance were heads of security agencies from the Army, Nigerian Air Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, the state Commissioner of Police, and representatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, among other paramilitary agencies.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who declared the meeting open, noted that his administration’s priority is to keep the state safe from any form of security threats.

According to him, the state government will continue to invest in advanced technology like drones to confront bandits across the state.

“We have invested in drones, and we are investing in more drones, working with the Air Force and the SSS (State Security Service) to see that these drones are deployed to provide additional intelligence. We are also building a forensic laboratory, to help the Police and other security agencies in crime detection and prevention,” he said.

Panic In Lagos Community As Gas Explodes Inside Filling Station

Emergency workers were yet to arrive at the scene of the explosion.

There is currently panic around Church Bus-stop, Alagbole, Lagos State, after gas exploded inside an abandoned filling station in the area on Friday.

The explosion, it was gathered, occurred shortly after mid-day as some persons evacuated gas cylinders and other equipment from the unused facility.

The situation has left the entire place filled with smoke billowing from the scene of the explosion while residents ran in various directions to ensure they and their loved ones were safe.

A resident of the area, who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters disclosed that emergency workers were yet to arrive at the scene of the explosion.

He added that there was no death recorded in the incident.

He said, “It was actually an unused gas station. They were ordered to leave the area for safety reasons and so the owners only came today to remove their empty tanks today when gas exploded.

“One of the tanks hit an object and since it’s highly inflammable, it caught fire. The fire is still raging inside the big compound while people await fire fighters.”

On November 17, a gas explosion at Ojekunle Street, Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos, killed five people, injured 10 others and destroyed about 12 cars.

The owner of the gas shop, who was among the dead, had tried to answer a phone call while refilling a cylinder when the explosion occurred.

Reveals Why Buhari Won’t Sign Electoral Bill Into Law

Reveals Why Buhari Won’t Sign Electoral Bill Into Law
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said the body signs from President Muhammadu Buhari have shown that he won’t assent to the electoral amendment bill transmitted to him recently by the National Assembly.
Wike who expressed confidence that the President won’t sign the bill said Buhari will eventually come up with an excuse to reject the bill.

The Rivers State Governor added further that the bill is dead on arrival alleging that even the stakeholders within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) don’t want the President to assent the bill as it will negatively affect their interests.

Naija News reports two major amendments been proposed in the bill by the National Assembly is the compulsory use of direct primaries by political parties to choose candidates for election as well as the provision to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transmit election results electronically or decide otherwise.

But Governor Wike during an interview with the African Independent Television (AIT) in Port Harcourt on Thursday said he is very sure President Buhari won’t sign the bill which was transmitted to him by the National Assembly on November 18, 2021 into law.
